Ericsson leaves the world of mobile phones. Sony has announced the acquisition of 50% of mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson from its Swedish partner, ending a decade of alliance.

The Japanese consumer electronics multinational, Sony, has put $ 1.05 billion in cash on the table for Ericsson’s 50% share in the joint venture, which was founded in October 2001.

The mobile phone market has shifted its focus from basic phones to smartphones with high processing power and therefore Ericsson no longer sees synergies with the production of handset devices.
