Don’t know what is the IP address error message that you’ve just received in Windows?

When you log-on to Windows, the system notifies you of a IP address conflict or of a connection that changes constantly. This is probably due to the fact that two computers on the network are trying to obtain the same IP address.

Indeed, most servers have the network configured to use DHCP, what means that IP addresses are assigned automatically for each user. If for any reason, you need a fixed IP address on a computer on the network, the DHCP might try to assign that IP address to another computer, which causes the IP address conflict issue.

Solution to the IP address conflict

To resolve this problem:

- Click Start> Control Panel> Network Connection

- Click the right mouse button on the connection in question, then [Properties] tab

- In the next window, select “Internet Protocol (TCP / IP)” then again the properties tab

- If the “obtain an IP address automatically” box is checked but you still have this problem check the “Use the following IP address” box

- Enter the IP address eg 192.168.1.12 (or any other address range 192.168.1.10 to 192.168.1.19)

- enter subnet mask = 255.255.255.0

- enter the default gateway = 192.168.1.1
