I have just installed the new Firefox 9 version because of the promised 30% improvement in the Java Scripts loading speed. I cannot tell you know if that is really true because I did not have enough time to test it. But I can tell you that this new version of Firefox has disabled some of my most important add-ons, saying it is not compatible with the new released browser. Therefore I have done a little research on the internet and found out how to make incompatible Firefox add-ons to become compatible, no matter what version of this browser you are using.
From now on there is no need to quit using the newer versions of Firefox if one or more of the add-ons you are frequently using is not compatible with that version of the browser. Also, you will not need to quit working with that specific add-on just because it is no longer supported by the new version of Firefox. You will just need to follow this tutorial.
Make incompatible Firefox add-ons become compatible
A fist method to turn your incompatible Firefox add-ons in compatible ones is to look for the install.rdf extension of the add-on you want to use. However this method will not always work as I did not manage to install Google Bar in the new Firefox 9.
The second method I propose you involves typing in the address bar of your browser the following command: “about:config”. You will receive a security message from Firefox. Click OK in order to go further. Right click there and select New, then Boolean. Now you just need to insert in the preference name the followings: extensions.checkcompatibility.9.0. Its value should be set to “False“. Please note that if you have a different firefox version, then you should replace 9 with your current browser version.
Firefox add-ons which make other add-ons compatible, too
I found one add-on which has been created to help the Firefox add-ons developers to test their products on the popular browsers. Because they are in developing status, those test add-ons will not be accepted by Firefox. But, Nightly Tester Tools will force the browser to accept the installation of the test add-ons. Similarly, you can use Nightly Tester Tools to install the add-ons which are not accepted by the new releases of Firefox, and you need them to work with on the daily basis.
A simillar add-on is Add-on Compatibility Reporter. It is currently being used by developers to test their newly created add-ons for Firefox and will also, help you in installing the Firefox add-ons you have used in the previous versions of the popular browser and now they became incompatible with the new release. I found it very easy to work with because the scope of Add-on Compatibility Reporter is to skip the compatibility checker which is enhanced in each Firefox browser.
Whatever of the methods which I have presented in the above mentioned paragraphs, you will be using, I am sure that you will be able to solve the incompatibility issues between the newest version of Firefox (9) and keep the add-ons which you are currently working with.
