The Mobile World Congress in Barcelona opened its doors today and we already have lots of updates to cover. The one I’m talking now involves the Vimeo network, which seems to have released a serious update to the iPhone Vimeo app for iOS.
With this new version of Vimeo app for iPhone, we can also expect a redesigned user interface for both the iPhone and iPad, which not so long ago was rather dull.
Vimeo first introduced the Android and Windows Phone 7 at CES 2012, letting everybody know that they are working on a serious update for the iPhone app, which will come with a native iPad user interface support. The Vimeo network decided to enter the mobile market due to the increasingly high numbers of data traffic using 3G or 4GLTE mobile networks.
If you did not get the chance to test the previous version of the Vimeo app for the iPhone, let me say that we were not bothered about the fact that it did not have an interesting looking user interface as we were by the fact that it was really unstable to work with. There were numerous reports from Vimeo app users, claiming that they encountered frequent crashes of the app on the iPhone 4, that sometimes there was no audio output or that it reported inaccurate statistics. I had a look on the change log but I did not see any of them among the fixes; probably because the change log mentions mostly improvements of Vimeo app for iPhone.
Here are the main improvements included in the update for Vimeo app:
- Vimeo Music Store integration in the video editor.
- Shoot video, create projects, and browse our featured channels without logging in or signing up.
- View your Subscriptions, Likes, and Watch Later album.
- Share, add comments, and view licenses, credits, and likes on other peoples’ videos.
If you’re on an iPad and would like to test the new version of Vimeo app for iOS, use the download link for the iPhone as it is basically the same app which will automatically detect your device and display the matching user interface.
