Back when Windows 8 was first presented by Steven Sinofsky, Microsoft said that it is working with several manufacturers to have tablets ready at Windows 8 launch. As we are approaching the date for Windows 8 Release Preview, rumors about the first Windows 8 tablets for businesses appear.
SlashGear reports about HP Slate 8, which could possibly be the first Windows 8 tablet for businesses. They managed to get their hands on some presentation slides with what seems to reveal HP’s plans for the first Windows 8 tablet focused on enterprise environments. The slides showed that HP Slate 8 will have a 10.1 inch display, with docking support and that it will have Windows 8 Professional installed.
The HP Slate 8 was among slides portraying products from the EliteBook range, so it is very likely that it will target the same consumer, businesses or high-end consumers.
Other features of HP Slate 8 tablet for Windows 8 may include HP’s own Protect Tools software, TPM embedded security along with support for Computrace, which would help you track down your Windows 8 tablet if you lose it.
Having Windows 8 Professional installed, clearly shows that HP Slate 8 will come with support for touch controls and for a capacitive pen. Assumptions can also be made in regards to the display, which should perform well under both indoor and outdoor lighting conditions.
Even though HP Slate 8 will use one of Intel’s upcoming x86 processors, the HP Slate 8 is likely to have somewhere between 8 to 10 hours of battery life, weighing not more than 0.68 kg with a thickness of only 9.2mm thanks to aluminum body parts.
On the front, we should expect HP Slate 8 to have a reinforced glass panel like the Gorilla Glass found in the Samsung Galaxy Tab. He hope that HP fitted some plastic parts in the design of the HP Slate 8 for a better signal and GPS reception, as we’ve all seen what happened with the iPhone 4 missing it.
So far we know that several tablets will be ready at Windows 8 launch, but we can’t say for sure if the HP Slate 8 tablet for businesses will be among them.
