Windows 8 Consumer Preview was released almost three weeks ago and as with any other operating system from Microsoft, you can install the language packs that would help you work with the OS better. The Windows 8 language packs can only be installed through the Windows 8 Control Panel, in the Language section as Microsoft did not offer a direct download link just yet.
As it was the case with the language packs from Windows 7, in the upcoming Windows 8 the language packs will use a lot of your disk space even though you require only just a couple of them. This is why I think that you’d be better off uninstalling Windows 8 language packs that you do not use or need, so that your disk space is used efficiently. The language packs in Windows 8 are usually installed on the same partition with the operating system so you can imagine that freeing up as much disk space as possible will seriously improve your system’s performance.
Below you will find out how to uninstall Windows 8 language packs to free up disk space on your computer.
As in Windows 8 the start menu and button was removed, you will have to use the Windows + R key combination to bring up the Run command window. When the Run command window opens, you should type in control.exe to access the Windows 8 Control Panel. This is a shortcut that you can use, if you don’t want to always go through the Metro Start Screen.
Before going further, I should bring to your attention that you can only uninstall Windows 8 language packs that you are not currently using. If you are, please switch to the default language that Windows 8 came with.In the Windows 8 Control Panel window you will have to access the Clock, Language and Region section and then to click on the button that says Add a language. This will open up the language control panel which allows you to uninstall Windows 8 language packs to free up disk space on your computer.
To uninstall Windows 8 language packs, you will have to select the language pack and then click on the Options button corresponding to it. In the next window that opens, you will then have to click on the link button that says Uninstall display language.
You can now watch how Windows 8 language pack is uninstalled from your computer but there is one more thing you have to do to complete the process. When the language pack is uninstalled from Windows 8 you must select again the language pack and then click on the remove button to clear the entry from Windows 8.
If you read carefully the above guide, you will know how to uninstall Windows 8 language packs without encountering any issue.
