As Microsoft designed Windows 8 to be used on both tablets and desktop PCs, this means that users would require official or 3rd party apps to be able to work with the device and the operating system. As a result the Windows Store was born, which is quite similar to the AppStore or to Google Play.
The Store in Windows 8 will allow you to install metro apps that will either help you in your work or that will simply entertain while you’re using the device. This guide will show you how to install & uninstall metro apps from the Store in Windows 8.
First, let’s see how to install metro apps from the Store in Windows 8.
Go to the Start Screen from Windows 8 and click on the tile that says Store on it. By default it should be in the most upper left corner of the screen. If it isn’t there, you can access it by simply typing Store in the Start Screen and this should bring up the results for this search term. Click on the Store tile and then continue reading this guide to learn how to install metro apps from the Store in Windows 8.
When the Store in Windows 8 opens, you will be able to see that the apps will also be organized in various tiled categories. These range from games, social apps, entertainment, news apps and a lot more.
As it is the case for the metro tiles in the Start Screen, you can browse through the app category tiles by using your mouse scroll or the arrows keys from your keyboard. Once you find an app that you like you will have to first click on its tile.
The home screen for the app will then appear and this is where you have the option to install metro apps from the Store in Windows 8. Here you can read information regarding the app like its developer, its description and so on. By now you should have probably figured that you have to click or tap, if you’re on a tablet, on the button that says Install.
An important aspect to mention is that you cannot install metro apps from the Store in Windows 8 unless you have a Microsoft account. No worries, once you click on install a screen will prompt you to enter your credentials if you already have one or create a new one if you don’t.
When you manage to sort out the Microsoft account issue, you are again presented with the install button from the Store in Windows 8. From there on, it should not take more than a couple of minutes for the metro app to download and install in Windows 8.
Once it does, it should appear automatically in the Start Screen from Windows 8 and you can access it from there each time. As with any other tile, you can move it to anywhere in the Start Screen by just clicking on it and dragging it to the desired location.
The second part of our guide will show you how to uninstall a metro app from Windows 8.
The truth is that it is a lot easier to uninstall a metro app from Windows 8 than to install it. If you don’t use an app anymore or you don’t like it, you just have to go to the Start Screen and then right click the app tile.
A menu at the bottom of the screen will instantly appear where you can choose from several options depending on each app tile. The one we’re interested in is obviously called uninstall and once you click on it, Windows 8 will take care of the rest. The other options you can find in this menu refer to pinning or unpinning the app to the task bar or to increase or decrease the size of the tile, as we’ve already mentioned a few days ago.
If you’re using a Windows 8 tablet, you will have to swipe your finger over the tile to access the bottom menu in order to uninstall the app from Windows 8.
