Windows 8, the upcoming operating system from Microsoft brings a lot of innovations and improvements on how the user interacts with the computer. One of these innovations is the new Metro Start Screen, which replaced the old Start Menu and bringing in the Live Tile concept. Today’s article is all about helping you to customize the Start Screen, by increasing or decreasing Metro Tile size in Windows 8. As days go by, more and more users get to know and understand how Windows 8 works and how it can help them to complete their tasks. The Metro Tiles that are displayed on the Start Screen from Windows 8 allow you to access quickly any application that you use frequently or to view relevant information about it, like the number of unread posts, e-mails and so on. Each Metro Tile can be displayed in two ways on the Start Screen; one in the shape of a small sized square and the other in the shape of a larger size rectangle (twice the size of the first squared tile).
How to increase or decrease Metro Tile size in Windows 8?
Metro Tiles can be displayed on the Window 8 Start Screen in a limited number, but you can actually increase it if you decrease Metro Tile size. Alternatively, if you want a cleaner and airy look on the Start Screen you can increase Metro Tile size so that fewer Tiles will be displayed.
You can increase or decrease Metro Tile size by right clicking on the one you want resized to enable the Tile Menu bar at the bottom of the computer screen.
From this point on, things are pretty simple and basic. You only have to click on a button called smaller, to decrease Metro tile size in Windows 8. Doing this means that a much smaller one will be displayed on the Start Screen. If you want to increase Metro Tile size in Windows 8, all you have to do is to click on the ‘Larger’ button found on the menu bar.
If you come across a Metro Tile whose size cannot be increased or decreased, please note that some Tiles do not have the resize option enabled. Right clicking on the Metro Tile in this case will bring up the menu bar at the bottom of the Window with several other options. Here you can choose to turn off Live notifications for the Metro Tile, to unpin a Tile from the start screen or to completely remove it from your computer.
The look of the Start Screen can also be changed by moving Metro tiles from one location to another. To do this, you simply drag and drop it anywhere on the Start Screen.

I wish you could decrease some tiles to a quarter of their size.. Most of my apps aren’t metro apps and having just the icon would do much to declutter things!
