If you are a Windows 8 Consumer Preview or just looking forward to the upcoming operating system from Microsoft, you can now have the Metro UI style in Google Chrome with the help of an extension. MySites is a browser extension which will add the Metro UI style to the New Tab in Chrome, displaying most visited websites or bookmarks in a live tile style.

The Chrome extension will allow you to access your favorite websites in both a stylish and useful mode as the New Tab in Chrome has them arranged in colorful and organized tiles. They come in different sizes for a more natural look and are strictly related to the number of visits for each website.

Before advising you to download and install MySites, I should let you know that the Chrome extension comes with its own search engine, allowing you to search on the internet from the New Tab window. If this feature does not bother you, here’s what you can expect once you download and install MySites.

Right from the start, the New Tab window will give you access to the Most Used, Favorites and Apps categories like the default one, with the exception that they are now arranged in tiles and have the Metro UI visuals. Using the numbered buttons at the bottom of the screen, you can browse through the websites you’ve either bookmarked or visited.

The tiles from the New Tab can be arranged like you would do with the live tiles in the Metro Start Screen from Windows 8. Also, these tiles change their size based on the number of times you’ve accessed the website. The large ones will indicate the most visited ones while the smaller ones show the ones which are less often accessed.

Like I already said, MySites comes with its own built-in search engine meaning that you’re stuck with using it in the New Tab window. Even though this is probably just a skinned version of Google Search, it could bother some users.

Nevertheless, if you want to have the Metro UI visuals in the New Tab window, you can download MySites using the following link.
