In this tutorial we will show you how to activate push notifications on iOS 5.x, in case you have activated your iPhone/ iPad/ iPod through the hacktivation method that has been provided by iH8Sn0w or Sn0wbreeze. For those which still don’t know, this method allows creating a custom firmware while keeping the baseband untouched.
One of the disadvantages of this activation procedure is that the push notifications will not work properly. If you are not familiar with the push notifications term, then you should know that a push notification appears when you are announced that you have received an e-mail or Facebook message (or anything similar to those). This thing will not happen when an iPhone has been activated with the carrier’s SIM that has blocked the device. Thanks to a plugin which can be found in Cydia, which is called SAM (Subscriber Artificial Module), we can activate the push notifications. They will be able to work properly when an artificial activation has been done. In fact, SAM will create some activation certificates on your iPhone/ iPad/ iPod and this is exactly the same thing that happens on the SIM card of a carrier which has blocked the device.
This tutorial has been verified on iPhone 4 with an iOS 5 Sn0wbreeze hacktivated custom firmware. However, you need to take into consideration some of the risks that can occur while performing it on your mobile device. If something goes wrong you might need to restore your iDevice. But we are quite confident that this will not happen.
How To Activate Push Notifications On iOS 5.x (Hacktivated iPhone/ iPad/ iPod)
We are presuming that iOS 5.x has already been installed on your iPhone/ iPad/ iPod.
Step 1: Open Cydia and select the “Manage”tab. Add the following source: http://repo.bingner.com .
Step 2: After successfully adding the above mentioned source, look for the SAM patch and install it.
Step 3: After installing the SAM patch you will notice that a new icon has appeared on your Springboard. IT is called SAMPrefs. Open this application and access the ‘Utilities’ tab.
Step 4: In the ‘Utilities’ tab you need to tap on the ‘Revert Lockdown To Stock’ option. This will deactivate the hacktivation which you have created by using Sn0wbreeze.
Step 5: You will now receive a confirmation message which looks like the one in the picture below.
Step 6: In the same tab select the ‘De-Activate iPhone (clear push)’button. Another confirming message will be displayed (as the one that appears in the picture bleow).
Step 7: Connect your iPhone to the PC through USB cable and open iTunes (if it was already connected, reconnect it). Wait until it is activated. After a few moments the device should be activated. If iPusher is installed, then uninstall it).
You can check if the activation has been done successfully by navigating to Settings > SAM > More information. Here you should be able to see the following message: “Wildcard activated”
Step 8: Once again you need to open SAMPrefs, access the ‘Utilities’ tab. You will notice that a different menu will appear now. Tap on ‘Backup Activation’ and on ‘Restore Activation’. You will receive a confirmation message.
Step 9: Restart your iPhone. Connect it to iTunes and synchronize it. After the synchronization process has ended you can install iPusher application from App Store. With this you will be able to test if the push notifications are working correctly.
Step 10: Restart again your iPhone/ iPad/ iPod. Re-synchronize it with iTunes. Open iPusher app which has been installed earlier in this tutorial, and tap on ‘Test Push Notifications’. If everything is OK, then you should receive a similar message to the one in the above mentioned picture.
Step 11: For iMEssage and Facetime services to work, de-activate them from Settings menu, in your device. Restart it and then activate them again. They should work perfectly now. However, if you will go in the Settings menu again, you will notice that the ‘Activation unsuccessfull’ status will be displayed again.
