Facebook began two days ago the first test of a desktop messaging client that allows users to use Facebook chat without having to use a browser. The beta version is closed to the general public and can only be used by those invited by Facebook (something like what happens with Timeline, the revamped user profile that will soon be expanded to over 800 million users). If you are interested in this new Facebook commitment, you must wait for the invitation or public release.

The messaging application called Facebook Messenger for Windows, can use the social network chat in addition to reviewing the notifications of the account and see the “ticker”, the small window that displays real-time news about what the others are doing on  the network.

Facebook Messenger for Windows functions are limited for now. Users cannot make video calls or talk to several people in the same conversation.

As the name implies, Messenger is only available for Windows and specifically for Windows 7. Facebook has not commented on the possibility of developing software for other versions of the  Microsoft operating system or other platforms like Mac OS X or Linux.

This is not the first messaging application launched by Mark Zuckerberg’s portal. A couple of months ago, they launched “Facebook Messenger“, software that allows you to talk with your network contacts from mobile devices using IOS, Android or BlackBerry.
