As we would have expected, ih8Sn0w has published a new version of the Sn0wbreeze utility which allows us to create a custom iOS firmware, having the possibility to activate the phone and keeping an untouched baseband for unlocking purposes. All of these are now possible on iOS 5.1, too.
Simmilar to the Redsn0w 0.9.10b6 jailbreak, which has been released a few days ago by the guys from Dev Team, sn0wbreeze 2.9.2 will provide you only with a tethered jailbreak for old iDevices, on which iOS 5.1 has been installed: iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPAd 1, iPod Touch 3G/ 4G). Of course, you won’t include on this list iPhone 3GS with old bootrom which was taking advantage of the untethered jailbreak.
Sn0wbreeze 2.9.2 can be used in order to create a custom hacktivated iOS 5.1 firmware, maintaining the same baseband, too. Therefore, you will have the possibility to unlock your iPhone using a GEVEY SIM. Unfortunately, even if you keep the baseband and upgrade to iOS 5.1, but you are between those which are using Ultrasn0w in order to unlock your iDevices, you won’t manage to unlock your device with this method, because this utility is not compatible with the last iOS version, yet.
Another disadvantage is related to the fact that there is no jailbreak solution for the new iDevices like iPhone 4S and iPad 2 which run on iOS 5.1. We don’t even know when the jailbreak for this devices will be possible, or if it will be possible. the reason for which these devices cannot be jailbroken yet is that their chip (A5) does not provide access to the bootrom level.
You can download the new Snoowbreeze 2.9. by accessing this link. a tutorial for this OS 5.1 jailbreak method will appear very soon on our site. Also, you can use the Redsn0w 0.9.10b6 jailbreak tutorial with which you will be able to create a new firmware, keeping the baseband, too. But you won’t be able to hacktivate it.
