I know that you are using a lot of screenshots software. A lot of them are very simple to work with and offer just the basic functions while others are providing you with more complex features. Today we will present you a screenshot program which has one particular feature which you will not find to often in other similar applications: it will let you take screenshots from other computers on which you are connected remotely. Its functionality is not limited to that. You will be able to share your screenshots to other computers in your network. And it doesn’t matter whether this systems will run on Windows platform or others like Linux or Mac OS X.
The name of the application that we will review here is Kidsnapper. It has been designed in order to provide you with the ability to take screenshots and share them through your network, if you need, for example, to show other users how a process is taking place. The utility of this tool is awesome. Let’s say you are an admin using a Linux station in a network in which your users are working on some Windows stations. If they have a problem they could use Kidsnapper to make a screenshot of their error and easily share that screenshot with you, through the network ,even if your workstation runs on Linux. This will be accomplished by entering the IP address and port (which is set to 2000, by default) in the address bar of a normal browser.
In order to easily use Kidsnapper you have some key combinations at your disposal: Shift+Print and Ctrl+Print. The first one allows you to take a screenshot of your entire screen while the second hotkey will provide you with a printscreen of the active window. An interesting feature which Kidsnapper is providing is the function which will take printscreens automatically at some predefined time intervals.
You are also provided with an option which lets you share your screenshots through the entire network. You have to use the “Enable Webserver” command. The other computers in the netowork need to insert the ip address in a browser, as described above.
Several settings are available in Kidsnapper menu, and using them, you will be able to set this application as you wish. Therefore, you have to access the Preferences menu, which is based in the system tray. In this tab you will be able to change the port through which the IP connection will take place, you could set the program to ask for confirmation before sending a screenshot, establish the default area of your desktop on which the printscrees should be taken, set different sound options for the actions of this program and acquire your external IP address.
Kidsnapper takes the role of a simple screenshot application to the professional level. The great feature that it brings is the network compatibility which you will use when your computer is part of a network. The app is compatible with all the latest Windows versions
