In a few weeks, the Dutch airline KLM will introduce its new booking airplane tickets tool called Meet and Seat (that is to be read meet and sit down). What this KLM concept means is that when booking tickets online, passengers who wish can choose their seats according to their neighbors’ personal data, based on their account on the popular social network called Facebook.
When you’re flying alone, you always have the opportunity to meet someone. Sometimes this may be a good thing sometimes not, so this is quite a bit of lottery. You could fall next to someone who has a nice and interesting character, or you could end up next to a passenger complaining all the time about his life or work.
This is not totally new as Malaysia Airlines had already launched a system to share flight information on his Facebook page. Planely , a website , already offers this option for some time to “bind” the neighbors of flights via Facebook and LinkedIn.
Dutch carrier KLM, which is also affiliated with Air France, has already conducted a test by opening the bookings of flights from Amsterdam to Miami only on Twitter. In five hours, 351 reservations were made through the famous micro-blogging site. In all cases, the practice of flight booking via social media should aim to spread.
As such, KLM has decided to take the initiative by offering passengers the possibility to choose their trip mate, using the social network Facebook. When buying the ticket online, a passenger can then accept (or not) to appear on a list out of which other KLM flight passengers can choose from. Of course, the airline company may also propose a client that has a lot of KLM points to sit next to them.
